About Me

Jamila began her nursing journey as a nursing assistant in a memory care psychiatric unit.  She worked her way through college as a nursing assistant and received her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal/Juvenile Justice at Grand Valley State University in 1999. After completing her Bachelor's Degree she worked as a mental health technician, treatment specialist, facility manager in probation, and residential/detention professional.

 

In 2005, Jamila returned to her roots and completed her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 2008 at Wayne State University in Michigan. In 2018, Jamila earned her Masters of Science in Nursing at Walden University in Minnesota and passed her board examination to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)

Jamila comes to us with over 20 years of experience in nursing, health and human services. She has worked with various populations including mental health and substance use, geriatrics, juvenile and criminal justice clients, and adolescents. Jamila also has experience as a nursing administrator, house supervisor, and charge nurse at a 96-bed psychiatric hospital in the Houston area. Jamila has also provided quality care in one of the largest healthcare systems in Houston, Texas and Detroit, Michigan as a registered nurse. 

She has cared for mental health clients both inpatient and outpatient settings.  She has provided safe and effective medication management to individuals struggling with anxiety, ADHD/ADD, depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia.  She also provides brief supportive therapy to her clients.

 

My approach is to help you achieve wellness across the mental health continuum. I provide compassionate, patient-centered, and comprehensive care to clients across the lifespan.  My goal is to meet your specific needs by ensuring quality medication management and supportive psychotherapy.
